Residents’ parklet plan, Clonsilla Clonsilla

A plan to turn a parking space into a small public space, using free open designs that slot together without screws or glue.

The patch had been a dumping ground. Residents had already turned it into a community space with a play area, a bench for sitting quietly and a “Tree of Hope”.

The next idea was a parklet: a parking-sized platform with seating, games or planting, cut by machine from free open designs and put together by hand.

The committee asked neighbours through a group chat, then looked for someone in Dublin who could cut the parts. The site is in the council’s adopt-a-patch scheme, so they say no permit was needed.

We do not know if the parklet was built.

How it happened

    A dumped-on patch becomes a community space.

  2. About 2021

    Parklet planned.

What helped

  • Free open designs.

What was hard

  • Finding someone local to cut the parts.
  • No cost estimate yet.

Who was involved

  • A residents’ committee
  • Better Block, whose free designs they planned to use

Money

  • Not yet costed when last posted
