What we’ve learned
Patterns that show up across more than one project. Each one shows where it was seen, so you can judge it yourself.
This is our reading of the projects so far. It grows as more projects come in.
Add up several small grants
No single small grant covers a project. Groups that got built put several together, and spent the first one on design.
Seen in 3 projectsVolunteer time runs out
Projects often rest on one or two people. When they tire, or go back to work, the project shrinks.
Seen in 2 projectsProjects need a way through to the council
A named contact, a lease or a reply often decides whether a project moves forward.
Seen in 3 projectsPermission takes longer than building
Getting the land can take years. Building it can take a season.
Seen in 3 projectsStart with something small enough to undo
A table, a box or a strip of planting tests the idea cheaply before anything permanent.
Seen in 3 projectsAsk the neighbours before you build
When people agree to something first, they look after it.
Seen in 2 projectsLists go out of date unless someone checks
Projects end quietly. A record is only useful if someone checks it with the people involved.
