Keep a group going after the first year

What the projects say about volunteers, events, visibility and the council.

  1. Plan for fewer people

Groups shrink. Oliver Bond went from eight or nine to a few.

  2. Keep a regular time

A garden worked on most Sundays keeps going, even with one person.

  3. Hold one or two events a year, not ten

Mud Island has an open day and a Halloween party. Dublin Community Growers ran out of volunteer time on big festivals.

  4. Get noticed locally

Ballymun City Farm was a hidden gem until young people made films about it.

  5. Get a named contact at the council

Emails that get no reply stall a project.
